Mission & Vision
NICC bridges the gap between creative practice and cultural policy in the Belgian visual arts.
NICC supports artists, art workers, and other professional actors by translating lived experience and shared concerns into concrete policy questions and actionable cultural policy. By strengthening existing initiatives, networks, and collective knowledge, NICC contributes to policy-making that is developed with and from within the field. Every day, self-organised solutions emerge to safeguard artistic work, infrastructure, and livelihoods. Yet these practices often remain fragmented and insufficiently visible to those shaping cultural policy.
NICC connects these initiatives, amplifies their voices, and works to close the gap between everyday realities and systemic change.
NICC approaches the artistic practice as democratic infrastructure and fosters sector-driven, co-creative policy development from the ground up. We understand advocacy as an ecological practice: one that recognises and sustains the interdependencies between artists, art workers, institutions, educators, audiences, and policymakers.
NICC works towards an arts ecosystem that safeguards socio-economic rights, strengthens collaboration, defends artistic freedom, and remains open to difference, dissent, and critical expression. Our ambition is not just better policy, but a resilient and inclusive field that can continue to actively reinvent itself in relation to an ever-changing society.
