The Question of Funding is a collective of artists and activists that reflects on the economies shaping cultural production and the influence of funding structures on artistic practices. Beginning from the Palestinian context, the collective examines the dependency on international donor funding and explores alternative, community-driven models of cultural sustainability.
Central to their practice is Dayra — Arabic for ‘circle’ or ‘circulation’ — an evolving economic model based on trust, reciprocity and the shared value of human, material, natural and intellectual resources. Dayra was first presented at documenta fifteen in 2022.
NL Tijdens hun presentatie in het Muhka introduceert The Question of Funding het evoluerende Dayra-model en onderzoekt het collectief hoe vertrouwen en gedeelde middelen alternatieve culturele infrastructuren kunnen ondersteunen.

The Question of Funding is een collectief van kunstenaars en activisten dat nadenkt over de economieën die culturele productie vormgeven en over de invloed van financieringsstructuren op artistieke praktijken. Vertrekkend vanuit de Palestijnse context onderzoekt het collectief de afhankelijkheid van internationale donorfinanciering en verkent het alternatieve, door gemeenschappen gedragen modellen voor culturele duurzaamheid.
Centraal in hun praktijk staat Dayra — Arabisch voor ‘cirkel’ of ‘circulatie’ — een economisch model in ontwikkeling, gebaseerd op vertrouwen, wederkerigheid en de gedeelde waarde van menselijke, materiële, natuurlijke en intellectuele hulpbronnen. Dayra werd voor het eerst gepresenteerd op documenta fifteen in 2022.
