Op donderdagavond 28 maart is kunstenaar Tom Hallet aan het woord.Tom Hallet (°1990, Leuven) is een veelzijdige kunstenaar met een multidisciplinaire praktijk, voornamelijk gericht op tekeningen en sculpturen. Zijn werk vindt inspiratie in zijn persoonlijke geschiedenis en ervaringen, en is doordrenkt van een voortdurende zoektocht naar representatie en erkenning. Hallet legt de nadruk op teken- en beeldhouwkunst, waarbij hij deze twee media voortdurend in gesprek laat gaan met elkaar en met de toeschouwer. Centraal in zijn werk staan queerthema’s en dominante verhalen over liefde, identiteit, geweld en verlies.

Tijdens deze lezing zal Tom Hallet de drie recente solotentoonstellingen bespreken, namelijk In Museum M, Pizza Gallery en Inbox, als een drieluik. Na afloop zal er een gesprek plaatsvinden met Anna Laganovska.

Anna Laganovska (1996, LV) is een onafhankelijke curator en schrijver gevestigd in Antwerpen. Ze heeft kunstgeschiedenis en -theorie gestudeerd aan de Kunstacademie van Letland en culturele studies aan KU Leuven. Daarna heeft ze het postdoctorale programma in curatoriële studies afgerond aan de Koninklijke Academie voor Schone Kunsten in Gent. Laganovska maakt deel uit van een curatoriële collectief dat Publiek Park initieert en organiseert, een nomadisch tentoonstellingsproject in stadsparken en tuinen. Haar individuele en collectieve praktijk combineert een interesse in zowel de publieke sfeer als intieme domeinen als lenzen voor het begrijpen van hedendaagse culturele omstandigheden.

Dit evenement wordt georganiseerd binnen het kader van FRONT ROW, een nieuwe reeks verrassende kunstenaarsgesprekken die M HKA en NICC maandelijks samen organiseren. FRONT ROW biedt enkele van de meest tot nadenken stemmende kunstenaars van vandaag de gelegenheid om samen met het publiek te reflecteren op kunst, cultuur en maatschappij. De lezingen zijn een kans voor iedereen om kunstenaars te ontmoeten en hun kijk op de wereld te overwegen en bespreken.

FRONT ROW is een coproductie van het M HKA en kunstenaarsplatform NICC vanuit de gedeelde missie om kunstenaars te ondersteunen, internationale ambities te koesteren en gesprekken te faciliteren. Het open format van de reeks, van een lezing over een performance tot het delen van nieuwe ideeën, onderstreept de diversiteit en complexiteit van de hedendaagse artistieke praktijk.

FREE Artist Talk at M HKA

A collaboration between M HKA & NICC

Thursday evening, March 28, features artist Tom Hallet. Tom Hallet (b. 1990, Leuven) is a multifaceted artist with a multidisciplinary practice focused primarily on drawings and sculpture. His work finds inspiration in his personal history and experiences, and is steeped in an ongoing search for representation and recognition. Hallet focusses on drawing and sculpture, constantly engaging these two media in conversation with each other and with the viewer. Central to his work are queer themes and dominant narratives of love, identity, violence and loss.

During this lecture, Tom Hallet will discuss the three recent solo exhibitions, In Museum M, Pizza Gallery and Inbox, as a triptych. Afterwards, there will be a conversation with Anna Laganovska.

Anna Laganovska (b. 1996, LV) is an independent curator and writer based in Antwerp, Belgium. She studied art history and theory at the Art Academy of Latvia and cultural studies at KU Leuven. She then completed the postgraduate program in curatorial studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. Laganovska is part of a curatorial collective that initiates and organizes Publiek Park, a nomadic exhibition project in city parks and gardens. Her individual and collective practice combines an interest in both the public sphere and intimate domains as lenses for understanding contemporary cultural conditions.

This event is organized within the framework of FRONT ROW, a new series of thought-provoking artist talks that M HKA and NICC jointly organize monthly. FRONT ROW provides some of the most thought-provoking artists of today with the opportunity to reflect on art, culture, and society alongside the audience. The lectures are a chance for everyone to meet artists and consider and discuss their perspectives on the world.

FRONT ROW is a co-production of M HKA and the artists’ platform NICC, driven by the shared mission to support artists, nurture international ambitions, and facilitate conversations. The open format of the series, from a lecture on a performance to sharing new ideas, underscores the diversity and complexity of contemporary artistic practice.
