NL NICC presenteert voor haar zilveren jubileum “NICC x 25”, een meerlagig evenement dat zal plaatsvinden in S.M.A.K. van 7 tot 28 december. Dit evenement markeert een mijlpaal voor onze artist-run organisatie, die zich sinds 1998 inzet voor individuele kunstenaars.

In de afgelopen jaren heeft NICC initiatieven zoals Extra City en Studio Start (nu bekend als Morpho) helpen oprichten, de ontwikkeling van het atelierbeleid in Antwerpen bevorderd, sociale zekerheid voor kunstenaars mede mogelijk gemaakt, modeldocumenten verspreid ter ondersteuning van kunstenaars, en de noodzaak van adequate financiering voor de beeldende kunsten benadrukt, alles met als ultieme doel de sociaaleconomische positie van beeldend kunstenaars te verbeteren.

NICC x 25  weerspiegelt een moment in tijd, waarin archief en aspiratie samenkomen. Verwacht een gevarieerd programma met performances, screenings, debatten, een tentoonstelling en de presentatie van een nieuwe publicatie.

De publicatie “NICC x 25”, is gebaseerd op het NICC memorandum, waarin we pleiten voor erkenning van de maatschappelijke rol van kunstenaars en waarin we concrete voorstellen bieden om deze erkenning te realiseren. De geschreven bijdragen worden onderstreept door artistieke bijdragen van beeldende kunstenaars. Deze publicatie wordt uitgegeven in samenwerking met Stockmans Art Books.

De tentoonstelling – en het bijhorend publiek programma met lezingen en performances – is samengesteld door Younes Baba-Ali, Céline Mathieu en Kasper De Vos op basis van de inzendingen van de open call. Deelnemende kunstenaars zijn Timo Bonneure & Nienke Baeckelandt, Guillaume Bijl, buren, Cel Crabeels, Katinka de Jonge, Ayrton Eblé, Sacha Eckes, Romane Iskaria, William Ludwig Lutgens, Michal Luft, Léa Mayer, Monali Meher, Lieven Segers, T.I.C., Leendert Van Accoleyen, Thé van Bergen, Pieter Van den Bosch, Kristof Van Gestel, Various Artists, Zeger Vetters.

EN NICC presents for its silver jubilee “NICC x 25,” a multilayered event that will take place at S.M.A.K. from December 7th to 28th. This event marks a milestone for our artist-run organisation, which has been dedicated to individual artists since 1998.

Over the past years, NICC has co-founded initiatives such as Extra City and Studio Start (now known as Morpho), promoted the development of studio policies in Antwerp, and contributed to social security for artists, disseminated model documents to support artists, and emphasised the need for adequate funding for the visual arts, all with the ultimate goal of improving the socio-economic position of visual artists.

NICC x 25 reflects a moment in time, in which archive and aspiration converge. Expect a diverse program of performances, screenings, debates, an exhibition and the presentation of a new publication.

The publication, “NICC x 25,” is based around the NICC memorandum, in which we advocate for recognition of the social role of artists and offer concrete proposals for making this recognition a reality. The written contributions are underscored by artistic contributions from visual artists. This publication is published in collaboration with Stockmans Art Books.

The exhibition – and accompanying public program with lectures and performances – is compiled by Younes Baba-Ali, Céline Mathieu and Kasper De Vos based on the submissions of the open call.
