New Grass: Art & My Career

This Wednesday 7 July, NICC will present the board game Art & My Career by Olivia Hernaïz in combination with a series of self-published artist editions.

Dialogue and conversation are the essence of Olivia Hernaïz’s artistic practice. The board game Art & My Career is a participatory project that responds to the current art career of women on the basis of hundreds of testimonials. From art historian to artist, on the basis of several careers, the player is confronted with the position of women in the art world.

The board game will be played during the opening by Karolien Chromiak, Natasja Mabesoone, Juan Pablo Plazas and one visitor. The game and conversation will be moderated by Stéphane Schraenen. The action will be broadcast live on a big screen in BOTANICC.

In addition to the board game, there will be an installation in which the visitor can write down his/her testimonials anonymously. This collection of testimonials is intended to reflect on the evolution of the contemporary art world in Belgium and will form the basis for a second edition of the game.

In addition to Art & My Career, NICC will also present several NICC editions, signed prints and original drawings, during the month of July. The first edition dates from the initial period 1999 to the last from 2020. The editions contain contributions from: Charlemagne Palestine, Philippe Van Snick, Jos De Gruyter & Harald Thys, Mitja Tušek, Arocha – Schraenen, Elly Strik, Lieven Segers, Nel Aerts, Guy Rombouts, Bernd Lohaus, Joëlle Tuerlinckx, Boy & Erik Stappaerts, Guillaume Bijl, Franz West, Henk Visch, Luc Tuymans, Mirosław Bałka, Luc Deleu and Lázara Rosell Albear. Each artist’s contribution will be framed and offered for sale.
