Op zaterdag 10 februari (19:00) verwelkomen we Jim Shaw in De Cinema voor een boeiend gesprek met curator Anne-Claire Schmitz over zijn werk en zijn nieuwe solotentoonstelling “The Ties That Bind” in het M HKA. Duik mee in zijn eigenzinnige beeldtaal, doordrenkt met referenties uit de Amerikaanse cultuur, en ontdek zijn focus op de frictie tussen conservatieve en progressieve denkkaders.

Speciaal voor M HKA creëerde Shaw het audiovisuele werk “The Electronic Monster and Thirteen Ghosts”, geïnspireerd door zijn eerste ervaring met monsterfilms als kind. Na het gesprek vertonen we de cult-horrorfilm “13 GHOSTS” (1960), waar een huis met dertien zichtbare geesten voor een onvergetelijke ervaring zorgt.

FRONT ROW is een maandelijkse reeks kunstenaarsgesprekken georganiseerd door M HKA en NICC gedurende 2024. Het biedt een open platform voor diverse artistieke vormen, waaronder talks, ideeënpresentaties en lezingperformances. Luister naar inspirerende reflecties over kunst, cultuur en samenleving door enkele van de meest prikkelende kunstenaars van vandaag.

🎨 NICC and M HKA join forces for an exciting new lecture series: FRONT ROW! We kick off with none other than the internationally renowned artist Jim Shaw.

On Saturday, February 10th (7:00 PM), we welcome Jim Shaw to De Cinema for a captivating conversation with curator Anne-Claire Schmitz about his work and his new solo exhibition, “The Ties That Bind,” at M HKA. Dive into his unique visual language, infused with references from American culture, and explore his focus on the friction between conservative and progressive thought frameworks.

Especially for M HKA, Shaw created the audiovisual piece “The Electronic Monster and Thirteen Ghosts,” inspired by his first experience with monster films as a child. After the discussion, we’ll screen the cult horror film “13 GHOSTS” (1960), where a house with thirteen visible ghosts provides an unforgettable experience.
