De presentatie van dit jaar verkent een ongebruikelijk thema voor een kunstmuseum: de appel. Samen met de kunstenaar verkennen we het langlopende, collaboratieve en onderzoeksmatige project geïnitieerd door Antje Majewski en Pawel Freisler.

Waar komen appels vandaan? Hoeveel variëteiten zijn er en waarom verdwijnen ze? Waar kunnen tuinbouw, natuurbescherming en kunst samenkomen? En hoe kunnen appels – niet als objecten, maar als organische, anders-dan-menselijke wezens – worden geïntegreerd in een museum? Tot deze en meer vragen richten de kunstenaars zich in hun project.

Dit evenement wordt georganiseerd binnen het kader van FRONT ROW, een nieuwe reeks verrassende kunstenaarsgesprekken die M HKA en NICC maandelijks samen organiseren. FRONT ROW biedt enkele van de meest tot nadenken stemmende kunstenaars van vandaag de gelegenheid om samen met het publiek te reflecteren op kunst, cultuur en maatschappij. De lezingen zijn een kans voor iedereen om kunstenaars te ontmoeten en hun kijk op de wereld te overwegen en bespreken.

FRONT ROW is een coproductie van het M HKA en kunstenaarsplatform NICC vanuit de gedeelde missie om kunstenaars te ondersteunen, internationale ambities te koesteren en gesprekken te faciliteren. Het open format van de reeks, van een lezing over een performance tot het delen van nieuwe ideeën, onderstreept de diversiteit en complexiteit van de hedendaagse artistieke praktijk.

FREE Artist Talk at M HKA

A collaboration between M HKA & NICC

On Thursday evening, February 29th, the renowned visual artist Antje Majewski will be at M HKA for a conversation with curator Joanna Zielinska, discussing her collective approach and the latest edition of the Superhost project, Appel. An introduction (over and over again). This unique project combines a presentation with lectures and an ambitious planting of apple trees in the city.

This year’s presentation explores an unusual theme for an art museum: the apple. Alongside the artist, we delve into the long-term, collaborative, and research-oriented project initiated by Antje Majewski and Pawel Freisler.

Where do apples come from? How many varieties are there, and why are they disappearing? Where can horticulture, nature conservation, and art converge? And how can apples – not as objects, but as organic, non-human entities – be integrated into a museum? These are among the questions the artists address in their project.

This event is organized within the framework of FRONT ROW, a new series of thought-provoking artist talks that M HKA and NICC jointly organize monthly. FRONT ROW provides some of the most thought-provoking artists of today with the opportunity to reflect on art, culture, and society alongside the audience. The lectures are a chance for everyone to meet artists and consider and discuss their perspectives on the world.

FRONT ROW is a co-production of M HKA and the artists’ platform NICC, driven by the shared mission to support artists, nurture international ambitions, and facilitate conversations. The open format of the series, from a lecture on a performance to sharing new ideas, underscores the diversity and complexity of contemporary artistic practice.
