EN: Call for participation – Research Project “Room for Critical Voices”
Artists are vital to open debate, critical thinking, and societal progress. Around the world, however, this democratic role is increasingly under pressure – for example through intimidation, interference, and censorship.
To address this, the Federal Institute for Human Rights (FIRM) is examining the challenges artists in Belgium face across disciplines, as well as their experience of artistic freedom. The findings will inform concrete policy recommendations.

Kunstenaars zijn van vitaal belang voor een open debat, kritisch denken en maatschappelijke vooruitgang. Overal ter wereld staat deze democratische rol echter steeds meer onder druk, bijvoorbeeld door intimidatie, inmenging en censuur.
Om dit aan te pakken, onderzoekt het Federaal Instituut voor de Mensenrechten (FIRM) de uitdagingen waarmee kunstenaars in België in verschillende disciplines worden geconfronteerd, evenals hun ervaringen met artistieke vrijheid. De bevindingen zullen worden gebruikt voor concrete beleidsaanbevelingen.
